San Diego Unified School District Visual and Performing Arts

Organized by San Diego Unified School District

Put Your Money Where the Arts Are!
The San Diego Unified School District Visual and Performing Arts Department supports all district students in dance, theatre, music, and visual art. California State funding for the arts is lower than ever and in some districts, the visual and performing arts have been eliminated from public schools altogether.

But the arts are alive in SDUSD and we want to keep them that way. The Board of Education agreed to restore 26 elementary music teachers that serve 120 elementary schools in our district (100%). But there is no funding for music supplies, method books, instrument repairs, and equipment.

According to the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) students who are provided music instruction in school:

- have improved attendance

- have fewer discipline problems

- are less likely to drop out

- do better in math and reading

- attend college at twice the rate

- perform better in world languages

- score better on standardized tests

- feel better about themselves

...compared to students who do not participate in music instruction.

Instructionis delivered during the school day to all students who desire to participate. Please consider giving a generous donation to help us provide music instruction for all students regardless of background or ability to pay.
